McGrath Thumper
Lavender / Honduran Mahogany
The Nexus, The Cluster Punch, The Vortex we’ve been coming up with a few names for this pickup combination, but for now, it’s a variant of the Thumper. The two pickups are right in the sweet spot for quad coil tonal greatness.
The design idea behind this build was to take everything we’ve learned and make it as clean and stunning as possible. We’ve been on a bit of a quest to find some signature McGrath tones, and this is definitely one of them.
This is a medium scale, 5 string powerhouse that sounds amazing, feels super comfortable to play, and looks striking. It’s a totally passive bass equipped with two EMG 40HZ pickups for ultra clarity and definition. The controls are simple, two volumes and a tone, but both volumes are also push pulls. The first acts as a killswitch, which is super handy for many live situations, especially when tuning with a clip on tuner. The second routes both pickups in series, giving you a louder, punchier tone than both pickups in parallel. The parallel tone is also great, it’s glassier and slightly cleaner.
